Chess & Economics!

As I work on my MBA, I am amazed by all the parallels between chess and business. As I was reading for my Managerial Economics course, I came across the following quotation:

“Successful strategy results from applying consistent principles to constantly changing business conditions.” --- From Economics of Strategy by Besanko, Dranove, Shanley, and Schaefer. (New Jersey: John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 2007.)

A Wonderful day in Santa Barbara!

On September 3, Andrew spent the entire day at St. John of Damascus Academy in Goleta, CA. With the help of the teachers, Andrew led students in grades K-7 through a plethora of differing chess activities and exercises in what we call, "Chess Day!"

Everyone had a great time! The students left the day very inspired- several even played chess again that same evening!

What a great start to a wonderful year! Andrew will be traveling each Wednesday to Santa Barbara to teach at SJDA, as well as some other locations.

Summer Camp in Santa Barbara

Another successful week of chess camp! During the week of August 4th, 23 kids joined us for a fun-filled week of chess! Brian and Andrew instructed kids of various ages and ranks in chess. The children learned valuable chess skills and strategies and ended their days with competitive chess tournaments. By the end of the week, all the kids left the camp with more experience, more knowledge, and a smile on their faces. Interest in chess is spreading in the Santa Barbara area, and we are looking forward to the gradual growth of chess players. Many thanks to the dedicated students, their parents, and the staff.

Attached are the standings for the camp and the parent survey - please feel free to fill it out ato give us some feed back.

Success in L.A. Chess Camp!

We hosted a summer chess camp July 28-Aug 1 at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA. Forty-one kids of various ages and skill levels joined us for a fun-filled week featuring top instructors and an energetic staff. Each day the children rotated through workshops with each teacher, learning valuable chess skills and strategies. These days also included competitive tournaments between the students. The children were inspired and enthusiastic about chess, and it was very hard for kids and staff alike to say goodbye on the last day. Many thanks to all the supportive parents and staff! We will hope to see you at the next event. Following are pictures to give you a taste of last week:

Start a Chess Program!

What is Chess Revolution?

Chess Revolution is a fast and revolutionary way to teach chess to kids. While many other chess programs spend weeks teaching kids how to play chess, we teach new students how to play in a few hours!

Take a look at our Chess Revolution flyer!

Are all classes taught by Andrew Svehaug?

Originally, all classes were taught by Andrew. To help more kids through chess, Andrew has trained several highly qualified instructors to assist him in bringing the ACI training methods to more schools. This way, Andrew can focus on developing new training methods and materials for students.

Is my student ready for tournaments?

Once a student knows the rules, the student is ready for a tournament. Our tournaments are fun, and cater to beginners and experienced players alike.
